Discover Ippudo V West Hollywood

If you’re craving plant-based ramen that doesn’t feel like a compromise, Ippudo V West Hollywood at 8352 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States, delivers an experience that’s both thoughtful and seriously satisfying. I’ve visited several times-once for a casual weeknight dinner and again during a busy weekend rush-and each visit felt consistent, energetic, and well-executed.

This location sits right in the heart of West Hollywood, surrounded by buzzing nightlife and boutique storefronts. Step inside and you’ll notice the modern Japanese aesthetic: clean lines, warm lighting, and a lively open kitchen where you can see bowls assembled with care. The atmosphere feels like a cross between a Tokyo ramen bar and a laid-back California diner, which honestly makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile.

The menu focuses entirely on plant-based ramen, but don’t mistake that for limited options. In fact, the variety is impressive. From creamy tonkotsu-style broths crafted without pork to spicy miso blends layered with umami, every bowl feels intentional. During my last visit, I ordered the Akamaru-inspired vegan ramen. The broth had depth, a rich mouthfeel, and that signature savory kick you’d expect from traditional ramen. According to food science research published by the Journal of Culinary Science & Technology, umami perception increases when ingredients like fermented soybean paste and mushrooms are layered together. You can taste that technique here-especially in their miso-based broths.

What stood out most was the process behind the noodles. I asked one of the staff members about it, and they explained that the noodles are specially formulated to maintain chewiness without egg. That elasticity matters. The texture held up beautifully in the hot broth, which is something many plant-based ramen spots struggle with. It’s clear the team understands the chemistry of hydration, gluten structure, and cooking time.

Beyond ramen, the small plates deserve attention. The plant-based bao buns are fluffy and balanced, and the crispy rice dishes bring texture contrast to the meal. If you’re dining with friends, it’s easy to turn the experience into a shared feast. I’ve seen tables order multiple bowls and rotate them around, comparing flavors and heat levels. It becomes interactive, which makes the evening more memorable.

Reviews across major dining platforms consistently highlight the flavor intensity and consistency. Many diners mention that even non-vegans leave impressed. That lines up with broader trends reported by organizations like the Good Food Institute, which notes that plant-based dining continues to grow rapidly in the United States as consumers look for sustainable alternatives. This restaurant feels like a real-world example of that shift-proof that plant-forward food can be indulgent, not restrictive.

Service has been friendly and efficient in my experience. On a packed Friday night, our wait time was reasonable, and staff checked in without hovering. They were also knowledgeable about spice levels and ingredient substitutions. That kind of transparency builds trust. If you have dietary concerns, it’s always wise to double-check specific allergens, but the team appears well-trained in answering detailed questions.

Portion sizes are generous, and prices are aligned with other specialty ramen spots in Los Angeles County. While parking in the area can be limited-typical for Santa Monica Boulevard-there are nearby structures and street options if you’re patient.

What keeps bringing me back is the balance. The menu feels focused yet creative. The location adds energy without overwhelming the meal. And most importantly, the food tastes crafted rather than trendy. In a city packed with dining options, this spot stands out by doing one thing exceptionally well: delivering bold, layered ramen in a fully plant-based format without sacrificing authenticity or comfort.

  • Wow. Woah. Wow. 10/10 would recommend. A bit pricey, but the food, attention to detail and service really justify it. I haven’t been to Japan since 2019 and this felt as authentic as having ramen in Tokyo. For real! No complaints at all. I had the spicy miso ramen (photo attached)

  • 10/10. Been here twice since discovering it two weeks ago. The all vegan menu is excellent. I’ve had the tontaksu and veggie ramen twice as well as the eggplant* sushi, another recommendation roll was equally delicious. The only disappointment was the cocktails. Very delicious and presentable but might as well order water/juice. Extremely low alcohol content I think due to being made with Soju* I may be wrong but not a good place to drink a lot. Grab a drink before or after dinner

  • They have an all new vegan menu and it's even better than before. The waitress was super nice and helpful. Food was delicious. I've gone a few times now and tried new things each time and they have all been great.

  • Their vegan ramen options were delicious. They had good depth of flavor especially for being vegan. They had a good range of ramen options. The environment was clean and modern with a nice fast casual vibe. The staff was friendly.

  • We tried the new dragon tan tan and it was delicious! we are not vegan so we decided to add an egg and chicken. The broth was creamy, not too rich, not too light that it becomes bland, and had hints of that numbing peppercorn i love in Szechuan cooking. The chicken was also really soft and not dry or overcooked which i was grateful for. Egg was soft and jammy, and noodles were bouncy and chewy. All in all a great experience, please don’t be scared off if you are a meat eater!

  • Really good!!! The staff are friendly...conveniently, the happy hour for the Baos was a pleasant suprise. The broth used has a decent depth of colour! Highly recommend the spicy options for those who love spice, but plenty of options for people of all types!!!
